I haven't figured out why this is so offensive to some.
My background teaches me it is a respectful and humble posture.
It seems commendable in so many places.
I saw this guy at the Art Institute in Chicago. If I remember correctly, he's from the 9th century. It seems a very prayerful pose.

This thought has occurred to me as well, the act of genuflection we always did when we entered church as children
