Bean Play

A little over a week ago, I enjoyed “The Bean,” the simple sculpture in Millennium Park in Chicago.  It is art in the public square—interactive art.  While there, I looked at and experimented with ways to view myself and Chicago through the bean's reflections.  Then I enjoyed watching the people around me doing the same.  They were enjoying the distorted but surprisingly clear city reflections.  They were taking lots of pictures.  A few lay on the ground in front of the sculpture for a close-up reflection. Off in a corner, a bride was throwing her bouquet.

Coming from South Bend where street life is sparse, just being part of the crowd feels good.  It’s even nicer when we’re together enjoying art and play.
