I discovered a birding blog recently. I love its name: "The Zen Birdfeeder." Yesterday the writer, Nancy Castillo, gave a
few facts about the ruby-throated hummingbird.
“While you were sleeping,”
she writes “a Ruby-throated Hummingbird flew 600 miles non-stop across the Gulf of Mexico .” This bird weighs about as much as a nickel
and burns off about a third of its body weight during the flight. Hard but wonderful to imagine.
